The Barberton Paragliding Open is the longest-running paragliding competition in Africa. The event will take place from 13 to 19 June 2027 with Saturday, 12 June reserved as unofficial practice day. There will be shutlles available from the golf club to the Lone Tree Hill take off and permits for all participants on practice day. The event safety and recovery services and plans only effective from Day 1 of the event for registered participants. The location is the historical mining town of Barberton with the Barberton Golf Club as the official meet centre and the Lone Tree Hill launch site as the official launch. The event seeks to establish who the Barberton Paragliding Open 2027 XC champion is in 5 categories namely Novice, Intermediate, Sport, Performance, Competition categories as well as Overall Woman and Overall Men. The event will establish the best Team based on a categorie modifier system. Scores will contribute to the SA CUP as well as WPRS points. Entry into the event includes daily permit fees for Lone Tree Hill, stand-by Paramedics, take-off catering, shuttles to launch every day and recovery to meet centre when task is set, daily task setting and safety committee, daily task scoring, event director to manage take off and task logistics, technical director to manage technical issues and appeals, event apparel and goody bag, giveaways and special events and event prizegiving on Saturday, 19 June 2027. The BPO organisers support the Barberton community in as many ways as possible, we urge competitors and visitors to do the same! Entry fee according to CIVL: ZAR 3750.
